I'm really struggling at the moment. I feel like I have lost myself. I am always the person everyone comes to for help, but nobody ever bothers to ask if I am okay. I just feel worthless.
Hey there treasure, I’m so sorry to hear you’re feeling this way. I know it can be difficult being that strong person, the happy one thats always there to help, and it shows such strong sense of character that you put everybody before yourself. But like anyone, you cannot be expected to remain happy all the time. Life throws everybody its curve balls, and you are allowed and have every right to feel sad and down. I am sure your friends care immensely about you, and they clearly respect what you have to say and have an element of trust in you if they are coming to you when something goes wrong. But please do not think that you have to remain emotionless because of this. You’re friends probably do not ask if everything is okay simply because you are putting on this constant facade of being “the happy one”. I understand that is very draining, and tiring having to pretend to be something your not and that is why I don’t want you to be afraid of showing some emotion. If you are sad or upset, you’re allowed to show that around your friends - how else will they know something is up?
It takes a lot of courage to show others how you’re really feeling, and often you might feel vulnerable if you do. But these people are your friends, they care about you, and they will want to know if something is upsetting you. You have no need to feel worthless. The fact that people come to you as somebody to lean on, trust and seek advice from just shows what a valuable person you are. And if all these people can see it, so should you. Do not ever feel worthless about being somebody who cares.
I think you need to take a little time out for yourself, I give you permission to stop worrying about everyone else today and instead focus on what you need. Grab a cup of coffee or tea, get a book and read or write down how you’re feeling. Try and establish what exactly you’re upset about and then you’ll find i easier to tackle each problem.
